In need of more parking space for a new Shop Rite grocery store developer Diamond Properties and Engineer Dan Connolly turned to Masters Concrete Products, Inc. and MagnumStone Retaining Wall Systems to solve challenging site with poor soil conditions. Prior to reaching out to Masters, the project was specified with a competitor block which would have required additional construction.

“While I won’t downplay the heavy lift to make the shift this late in the game, it was well worth it given the cost, and time savings it offered. The lighter weight gravity wall system allowed us to eliminate previous foundation requirements (helical piles and grade beams) that would have taken 3-4 weeks alone to complete.” – Jay Black, Diamond Properties

The critical choice to switch to MagnumStone was only made 1 month prior to the start of construction. The move was made possible by Masters large inventory and production capabilities. Over the course of several winter months, contractor Lawrence Construction excavated the site and, utilizing MagnumStone, constructed 3 separate walls. The walls added significant parking space as well as supporting an active roadway above.

The heavy ledgestone texture of the MagnumStone also provided aesthetic appeal to the retail development in this affluent suburb Weighing less than 1500 lbs per block, MagnumStone also afforded savings in the terms of trucking by maximizing the square footage per load. Despite over 2500 pieces being utilized in this construction, spanning the length of the parking lot and new roadway. Masters Transport made only 57 deliveries to this location nearly 140 miles from our plant in Olyphant, PA.

MagnumStone’s hollow core technology in conjunction with its optional gravity extenders solved the challenging site and soil conditions from an engineering aspect while helping to speed construction. By setting 8 square feet per block, MagnumStone can be installed by a 2-3 man crew placing more than 1000 square feet per day with small machinery helping to reduce labor and speed installation. . “The new MagnumStone wall is getting a lot of positive feedback from various team members” - Jay Black, Diamond Properties

The ease of construction, versatility, and capability to maximize space under challenging conditions helped add over 100 parking spaces to this populated suburban retail area. Of course, the heavy ledgestone rock texture of the MagnumStone also provided aesthetic appeal to the retail development in this affluent suburb When you need to make the most of your property, choose MagnumStone.
